Storing Release Agent

Monday, December 14, 2009

Someone recently asked if our release agent can be stored outside in the cold. The short answer is "no." According to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) the release should be stored in a cool/dry location. Do not allow it to freeze, as the product may be damaged. And store it away from sparks and open flame.

Here is a link to the MSDS. This comes with every pail and drum of release we ship out. But, just in case you need it right now, here it is:

Treating Your Liners Well

Friday, September 18, 2009

Liners are made from urethane, a soft, rubber-like material that is (obviously) not as strong as concrete. Liners WILL wear out, but with care and proper use, you should get your money's worth out of them. Here are a few thoughts on working with liners:

Handle them well. Don't leave them out in the elements: drying in the sun, doused in the rain, or left in freezing conditions will cause serious damage to your liners.

Use the proper release agent. There are many, many release agents out there and unfortunately we cannot speak for them all as to how they might react with our liners. The wrong release agent can make you liners shrink, swell, disintegrate, etc. Of course, we know that our release agent, World Block Plus, works with our liners, and we would love to sell you some (thank you very much). But, we know you may have vendors closer to you that will make it easier to get. If you use another release agent make sure to test it well. If you see any adverse reaction, stop using that release agent. Do not use petroleum based release agents and whatever you do, do NOT use diesel fuel - that stuff will melt right through a liner.

Strip them carefully. Because your forms are poured face-down, when using liners you want to avoid rolling the block over the lip of the liner. You can do this in two ways: 1) place a lift point in the back of the block so you can lift it straight up off of the liner (this is how most people do it). 2) Place a board next to the back side of the block, near the liner, and roll the block up onto it when stripping - for example place a 4x4 next to the 4" Landscape Liner when stripping a Landscape Block. The block will roll up on the 4x4 and not crush the side of the liner.

There you go. Treat your liners well, and you will get more out of them.
